Join The Collective

As a birthworker who started their journey *prior to the covid-19 pandemic, I was eagerly searching for a village of birthworkers! A village that I could lean on for support, especially as a newly trained doula. But that was hard to find, and it was even harder to find another black doula in my area! As my journey continued and I continued to gain more experience....I was invited into conversations & spaces within a healthcare systems. Which for me was, very exciting! The idea of partnering with a hospital to provide much needed support & education, was exciting & fulfilling! But turned out that space was only available for a certain doula organization(at the time didnt have any doula's of color on their team). So I applied & to my surprise, my application was rejected lol. What sucked the most was that feeling of someone 'gate-keeping" me.  The feeling that i couldnt get those opportunities, if i wasnt apart of a certain group. So as hospitals started opening their doors again for doulas & childbirth educators....those spaces were being filled with birthworkers who did not look like me. And there is an obvious need for black maternal support, but no repersentation.

I created  Wise Wombman Colllective because, I wanted a space for BIPOC birthworkers to feel supported. A collective of supporting, caring, & uplifting powerful beings doing the work they were intended to do. I wanted a space where we could be our authentic selves & feel safe. Ask for help, or advice, or even just another birthworker to decompress with.****
